I came up on this great video showing ceramics inspired by medieval Russian sculpture. The white stone churches of Vladimir and Suzdal’ are famous for their bas-relief carvings, which feature fanciful derpy lions, birds, humans, angels, griffons, knotwork, and decorative designs. The creator of the video below shows her process of creating ceramics which are decorated with motifs inspired by that artwork. The video is a lot of fun to see the creative process, and the final results are a lot of fun!
The video has Russian subtitles, but there’s not much speaking – just some fun folk music and lots of eye candy. The title says “Dishes of the Old Russian Princes. Motifs of white stone architecture and ceramics technology.”
